How is Honey Comb Made?

Nature’s ingenious honeycomb design provides worker honeybees with a structured, secure home to raise a new generation. Made from beeswax and filled with nectar, honeycombs feature hexagonal cells and are filled with nutritious pollen and honey. A marvel of efficiency and stability, honeycombs are built to withstand extreme temperature changes and provide a safe environment for the bees and their young.

A honeycomb is an intricate structure made of hundreds of perfectly symmetrical hexagonal cells built with beeswax. Its unique hexagonal prism cells work as a mathematical solution to strength-weight ratio, providing a stable structure that can withstand external factors. The miracle of nature lies in its remarkable durability and efficiency.

This honeycomb features prismatic, hollow hexagonal cells designed for strength and efficiency, stacked perfectly in parallel for maximum protection. Crafted with natural beeswax, this honeycomb is an example of the engineering prowess of bees, and the perfect home for their social colonies.

Honeycomb is produced by worker bees collecting nectar from flowers and adding enzymes which break it down into simple sugars. These sugars are further transformed into the prime components of honey, creating a natural, nutritious sweetener. This honey comb is made with worker bees continuously fanning nectar, and a special sealed compartment material that helps turn it into thick and sweet honey. Rich in vitamins, amino acids, minerals, antioxidants and more, it is the prime energy source for honeybees, providing essential fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.

Once the honey has the correct water content, usually less than 18% the bees will cap the cells with wax to protect the honey for later use. This is where comb honey comes from. Most times, when a beekeeper wants to produce comb honey rather than liquid honey they will use starter strips of edible foundation. This foundation is very fine and the starter strip is about i inch wide and cemented into a bee frame to hold it in place or with pins.

After that the bees do all the work so that it is completely natural and edible. Once the bees cap over the honey we remove the frame  & use a special tool called a comb cutter to cut the pieces and place it in cut comb containers for selling. One thing to keep in mind we cannot use every frame in a box for cut comb or the bees don’t know what direction to make the comb and you won’t be able to get the frames out. Instead use every other frame and the bees will work the comb in the right direction for you.
