What is swarming?
Swarming is something bees do when they run out of bee space or because of instinct. In preparation of swarming they will put the existing queen on a diet so that she can fly. At the same time, the worker bees make several swarm cells. Swarm cells tke about 16 days to hatch approximately. A few days prior the queen & 3/4 of the worker bees will leave the hive.
The purpose of swarming is for the bees to expand and look for a new home. You will often see them landing in trees or bushes. Don’t panic as they will not harm you. They really don’t care about you, their sole focus is in finding a home. The best thing you can do is call your local beekeeper who will come & help.
How do beekeepers help?
We have a special piece of equipment called a BEE VACCUM which will safely suck up bees without harming them and placing them in a bee box for safe removal. In this manner we can get them off your property and rehome them where they can be of use for pollination services.
