• A heavy-duty hive tool is an essential beekeeping tool. It has a J shaped end for levering frames out of the hive during inspections, as well as a square end with a sharp edge used to remove burr comb and pry apart boxes. This particular model is 3.8mm thick which makes it suitable for commercial use and its red color makes it easy to spot in the paddock.
  

The hive tools of the J-type comes with a box levering edge and a j-hook, along with a tiny notch on one side.  The primary use of this tool is to lift frames from propolized hives. Correct usage of the J-type requires inserting it into the bee space where the notch rests against either the hive wall or frame providing necessary support for lifting. One should avoid placing the J-hook below frame lugs as it could cause them to break off with wrenching force. 

What are the uses of this type of hive tools?
